Introduction:

Before you dive in and surf your way through this site, I'd like to state that I class myself as a beginner, in the field of Tesla Coil construction.

I have always had an interest in science, elecricity, electronics, computers and anything mechanical. I have therefore gained a certain amout of knowledge and experience, through hobbies, in all the areas of ability needed to construct a Tesla Coil. I do not have any degree qualifications in any electrical discipline but I do have a good helping of common sense.

Many years ago I saw a television program (I cannot remember what it was) which briefly showed a man standing next to a tall cylindrical wooden frame tower, holding a thick cable, with brilliant sparks jumping from the tower to the hand-held wire! It was awe inspiring! This image stuck in my mind, along with the term 'Tesla Coil'.

Just last year, while doing a bit surfing on the Internet, I remembered this fantastic image and typed the words 'Tesla Coil' into a search engine, just for the hell of it!. Wow! Was I surprised at the results! There was an amazing amount of information on the subject, and the best part was that it looked like I could actually build one myself!!

There then started a period of information gathering. I found a most excellent source of information, the 'Tesla Coil Ring' and some very helpfull people on an email list called 'Tesla -2', run by Ralph Hartwell and Mike Hammer (see Mike's web site for subscription details).

Armed with lots of information, and a shopping list, I started on my Tesla Coil Project, in June 1998.
